April 30, 2009 - Expanded Drought Assistance Program. USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service State Conservationist Ed Burton is expanding a previously announced drought assistance program to $3 million. Four additional counties (Santa Cruz, Siskiyou, Solano and Ventura) have been added to the program and all eligible counties will now have until May 22, 2009 to apply.
 
     
 
April 20, 2009 - NRCS announces Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) sign-up period. The program provides 75% cost- share for practices that improve wildlife habitat on private agricultural lands such as rangeland, pasture and other lands. (For more information click here)

  November 26, 2008 - WHIP sign -up begins. The new sign up period for the NRCS Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) begins immediately running through Friday, January 23, 2009. The WHIP program provides 75% of the cost of approved practices undertaken to benefit wildlife. Eligibility is now limited to private agricultural landowners.   November 19, 2008 - This week a record number of partners to the California Rangeland Conservation Coalition came together to protect California’s largest conservation program, the Williamson Act.  On the letter sent by the Coalition to the California Legislature and the Governor, 37 partners advocated for the continuation of $34.7 million in state subvention funds to counties for participation in the Williamson Act in the State Budget that is currently under review (for a copy of the letter click here).
